As the weather gets a little nicer, more and more are popping up which is costing drivers hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
While many drivers are grateful this winter isn’t as brutal as last year, they’re still dealing with potholes. Buckeye Muffler and Brakes are packed with cars needing repairs. “We had quite a few the last couple days we’ve been pretty busy doing struts, ball joints,” said Buckeye Muffler and Brakes Owner Gordy Myers.
A ball joint repair alone can cost you about $400 to fix. Gordy Myers says he constantly finds damage on vehicles all from potholes. Some, you can see for yourself. “You’ll be looking for uneven wear. The tire that’s run on one side with no tread and have tread on the other side,” said Gordy.
This can easily blow a tire. Other damage, like wheel bearings, aren’t as easy to see as tire wear, but there is a way to tell. “You can hear all kinds of noises with something like this. It could be a howling noise or wooing noise,” said Gordy.
And if your ride is suddenly bumpier than usual? That’s the shocks, ruined from the constant wear and tear of the roads, taking on one too many potholes and causing major damage. “As you take the impact, it in turn shoves this up creating a lot of pressure in this area causing the damage to blow out the seal or even bending it,” Gordy Myers said.
All of this damage can cost you hundreds, even thousands of dollars to fix.
